Is Zipolite the right place for you?
Zipolite is different. We love the difference but it may not be right for everyone. Some visitors may find Zipolite small, unsophisticated, and lacking in activities. Others come once and are hooked. They become part of a loyal following of travelers who return year after year attracted by the rustic, still unspoiled setting. Zipolite is growing but it is still very much an authentic Mexican beach town. You will not find stylish Mexican-themed resorts, fancy restaurants or streets filled with tourist gift shops. No one will try to sell you a time share.
Zipolite draws a diverse crowd including many naturists who come to enjoy one of Mexico’s most famous nude beaches. Playa del Amor has the largest concentration of nudists but on any section of Playa Zipolite you are likely to run into a naked person.
There is a significant gay presence in Zipolite, often couples on holiday or traveling with friends. They are a welcome component of our social mix.
Zipolite and the neighboring towns are centers for yoga, massage and various healing arts.
The villas at Maquil are not party houses. Guests are expected to be considerate and quiet at night. The ClubHouse and the restaurant, Q, are not loud but just the same we close at 9:00 in an effort to have the grounds quiet around ten.
Maquil is located up from the beach at Zipolite in an area popular for guest houses because of the great views and evening breezes. The hillside terrain and the associated steps may present a challenge to those who are elderly or who have limited mobility.
